The National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT) has organized a two-day training on National data protection, privacy and management, with overview on the Nigerian data protection Act for its staff.
The training was targeted at enhancing knowledge and building capacity of staff of the Institute on the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 and its application.
One of the cardinal objectives of the training was to raise awareness on data protection, best practices and standards in order to protect institutional data and privacy.
The training which was in partnership with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDCP) was championed by the Cancer Surveillance and Monitoring Department of NICRAT.
Speaking while declaring the training open, the Director General of NICRAT, Prof. Usman Malami Aliyu, noted that data is gold, hence, important in management decision making.
Represented by the Director, Clinical Services, Prof Musa Ali Gombe, the NICRAT DG insisted that considering NICRAT is a research institute, data remains relevant in conducting its business.

He, therefore, charged the participants to remain focused and benefit from the training for the growth of the Institute.
The NICRAT DG further thanked the NDPC management for its efforts in data control and protection in Nigeria and described the NDPC as a good partner to NICRAT.
The NDPC team of facilitators was led by Adaobi Nwantuo. Other members of the team include Barr. Alex Onure, Funso Filani, Busayomi Oludotun and Tolulope Ibitoye.
The training was attended by all the heads of departments of NICRAT including members of the top management committee led by the Director of Administration, Hassan Haliru Gwandu.
