- Over the past six months, dedicated teams from 13 institutions across Nigeria have participated in an initiative for improving childhood cancer control in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and St. Jude Global.
- In particular, the facilities have worked to identify gaps and opportunities for national childhood cancer control using a tool developed by St. Jude Global called PrOFILE (Pediatric Oncology Facility Integrated Local Evaluation). The data from this effort was analyzed by St. Jude and returned back to each center.
- Building on this effort, we now plan to use these data to organize a two-day national stakeholder prioritization workshop scheduled to take place as follows:
Date: January 30-31, 2024
Venue: Niger/Plateau Hall, Transcorp Hilton, 1 Aguiyi Ironsi St, Maitama, Abuja.
Time: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
The objectives of the workshop are:
- To conduct a broad, multidisciplinary assessment of facility-based childhood and adolescent cancer care services in Nigeria with the intent to identify priorities for future work.
- To engage both local, national, and external stakeholders through a series of data-driven prioritization exercises to define key projects that accelerate progress for children and adolescents with cancer in Nigeria.
- To identify challenges/barriers to Pediatric Hematology & Oncology care locally and define key strategies to bridge these in Nigeria based on national, regional, and global priorities.
On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Health, The National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), and St Jude Global, we are pleased to invite you to this stakeholders’ prioritization workshop for childhood cancer in Nigeria.
