The WHA convenes annually and serves as platform for global health discussions and formation of policies, strategies and programs to better global health systems. This year’s meeting focuses attention to among other issues, Universal health coverage, emergency preparedness to response to hazard, saving lives from noncommunicable diseases and the extension of Refugee and migrant health global action plan.
Other important health matters discussed and adopted at the meeting were, the extension of traditional medicine strategy to year 2025, increasing access to medical oxygen, polio eradication and transition planning, as well as strengthening immunization services.
Also, on the sideline activities, the Director General NICRAT, Dr. Usman Malami Aliyu held a fruitful meeting with the Chief Executive Officer, GAVI, Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate. The meeting borders on exploring best ways to strengthen NICRAT in terms of vaccine exploration, program design and implementation strategy and provision of workable linkages to Universal health coverage among other productive commitments.
Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate, is a former minister of state for health in Nigeria and was in February this year appointed the CEO, GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance which works to provide vaccines in low – income countries.
The theme for this year’s Health Assembly is: WHO at 75: Saving lives, driving health for all.
