NICRAT, Govs Spouses’ Forum Collaborate to Strengthen Early Cancer Detection, Screening

The National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT) and the Nigeria Governors Spouses’ Forum (NGSF), have agreed to collaborate to improve access to cancer screening among Nigerians through the National Initiative for Cancer Early Detection, Screening and Coordinated Access to Networked Care (NICE-SCAN).

This is the outcome of a recent visit by NICRAT management team to the NGSF Secretariat in Abuja.

The NICRAT’s team was led by the Director General of the Institute, Prof. Usman Malami Aliyu and was received by the Chairperson of the NGSF, Her Excellency, Amb. Prof. (Mrs.) Olufolake AbdulRazaq, First Lady of Kwara State.

NICE-SCAN is NICRAT’s initiative designed to address gaps in early diagnosis and treatment.

It would be recalled that NICRAT recently launched massive awareness, prevention and treatment campaign under the NICE-SCAN initiative in Area Councils of the FCT.

NICRAT and NGSF, therefore, agreed to convene a technical meeting to harmonize engagements with the coalition of NGOs of Wives of Governors to fight cancer in Nigeria under the umbrella of First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC), and develop a framework for the phased rollout of NICE-SCAN.

At the end of the engagement, the NICRAT Director General, Prof. Malami, commended the wives of the governors for their valuable contributions and also reaffirmed NICRAT’s commitment to working closely with the Forum to strengthen cancer prevention and control in Nigeria.
